Spaceweather.com

I live in a rural area where we can still actually see stars at night. So every once in a while I think I see the aurora borealis. Sometimes it is even true.

To check it out, I go to this very cool website, http://www.spaceweather.com/ to see what's what up in the sky.

This website has something for everyone.

If you need an explanation for all the bizarre things that human beings do, check out what's going on with sunspots. That could be your culprit right there.

For inexplicable problems with your Internet connection or anything electronic, check out if solar flares are active. Everyone knows that solar flares cause all sorts of problems with network connectivity, lost files, computer crashes, VCR's and Tivo's reverting to their default settings and the microwave turning on for no apparent reason.

For the paranoid person, there's information about asteroids passing close to Earth - on Feb 16, one got as near as 33 LDs!

And what about the "comets." Every conspiracy theorists knows that comets are nothing but fragments from military experiments. They're still trying to get those star wars weapons and shields working right. Now you can see all the debris on the "comet" sky map.

And, just today I found the link that explains why one of my investments tanked. See "What is an Iridium Flare?"

But this website is not for children. So turn your filters off if you want to check it out. I mean there's a whole page of coronal mass ejections!

And for environmentalists looking for alternatives to fossil fuels, the Real-Time Solar Wind Data has my mind (and my virtual windmills) whirring thinking about that solar wind blowing at 600 kilometers per second. That's what I'm talking about!

When I see Solar Wind I see light sails and Mars in less than three months...
